Oils Practice No. 3, Scotland Challange Oils on Canvas 16x20" 9 February 2012
Jessica Truscott of =faestock puts out a challenge every couple of weeks, to take one of her images and do something along a theme with it; this go around it was "Scotland". I started out trying to channel the Hudson River school of painting, but I'm thinking it ended up more alongt the lines of Sargent or something. Thoughts/opinions? I'm just starting off painting, this is my third go at it with oils. I'm not *really* ready, but hey, that's what a challenge is for, right? It's all a learning process; I'll post more stuff when I'm further along the learning curve.
Ouch! This was practice? Well you wiped the floor with me, with this one, and I've been painting for years. lol. Beautiful sublte colours with a kind of rough, rugged, very scottish look to it.
lol, Im just learning; I spent the past few hours hacking away at a portrait. It ......isn't pretty I really seem to suck at it. IDK, I think Ill take another swing at it tomorrow, see if I can salvage anything. This stuff is HARD!!
I'd love to be able to do portraits in oils. Some of my favourite historical art pieces are gothic portraiture. Petrus Christus did an amazing one of a young woman. I haven't really delved seriously into oils, but I can imagine it's quite an in depth process.
