The Suggester said: This artist in general is an amazing traditional artist that shows a lot of skill. I was amazed when I saw how far his attention to detail goes when I saw a maze this large and detailed. Mazes are so much harder to make than to go through! And this one actually follows the story of LOTR! .: The Hobbit, a Maze :. by ~Avogel57

The Hobbit, a Maze
Technical Pen
13" x 16"

Is this what the intersection of insanity and obsession looks like lol?? I was playing around with pen sketches and repedetive patterns, and I decided that I'd like to try my hand at a maze =) I used to draw these on my desks in middle school, but it's been ages since I've thought to try one out. I was thinking of doing one based off of the LoTR, with different paths for each of the major charachters, but figured I'd better start off *small* first :p

The goal is simple; to start off in the Shire, and make it all the way to the Lonely Mountain. I'm thinking of digitally adding some false color later, but even in b/w you can make out the sharp craggy terrain of the Misty Mountains, the tangled topography of Mirkwood, even an arm or two of the Iron Moiuntains reaching into the top of the frame. I labled a few landmarks, but others, like the Long Lake and the River Running are merely suggested.

Follow the story. Though the ways may be twisted, you should be able to hit the major landmarks in order; if you find yourself far out in the wilds, you're probably on the wrong track. Then again....

" It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to. "

)) Sidenote: This is my 300th Deviation! Woo!! ((

(I listed this under technical illustrations; I really have no idea what the propper category might be. Fantasy? if you have a suggestion, I'd be willing to switch things up)

PRINTER FRIENDLY VERSION
Print off the following four quadrants on some nice map-like parchment paper, trim the extra bits off, and then tape them together to do the maze yourself at home! Each is on a standard 8.5" x 11" format, but you can blow it up to whatever size you like! I'd love to hear back what y'all think of it =D

This is awesome! I love the way you can see the different features of the map based on the shape of the path. The Misty Mountains, Mirkwood, and the River Running are especially noticeable. Well done on this! Now I want to print it and see if I can figure it out!
